AAUW St. Cloud
90th Anniversary Year Celebration
Top Ten List of Each Decade
1922–1932
- St. Cloud Branch of AAUW was formed on February 14, 1922, with 31 women college graduates. Informally it was called the College Women’s Club.
- At the second meeting they voted to provide a scholarship for a St. Cloud girl at an accredited college or university.
- Fundraising for the scholarship was started with a public speaker on the topic of “Books Worth Reading.”
- Interest groups were formed around these topics: preschool, elementary school, adolescence, international relations, and music and drama.
- Other fundraising ventures included the following: lecture series, plays, recitals, movies, concerts, and musicals.
- In September 1922, a tradition was begun of having a luncheon in September at the St. Cloud Country Club. Meetings were the second Wednesday afternoon, October through May.
- The first scholarship was awarded to assist a young woman to attend Columbia University during the school year 1923-24.
- On March 25, 1925, the St. Cloud members voted to join the proposed state organization, which dues were ten cents per member. The first state convention was held in St. Paul.
- In February 1927, the branch voted to give $100 to the new Fellowship Fund—the forerunner of the Educational Foundation.
- In February 1928, the St. Cloud Branch sent a member, with expenses paid, to Washington, DC to attend the Conference on the Cause and Cure of War. In May 1929, the first delegate was sent to the national convention in New Orleans.

Central Minnesota Habitat For Humanity WOMEN BUILD 2012
Women Build is a celebration of women, of community, and of opportunity. It is not about excluding men, but about including women. Join Michelle Redding as she explains about Women Build projects in the past and planned for the future. Women Build celebrates women working together in building community; provides women of all ages and abilities the opportunity to come together to build not just homes, but friendships and networks, personally and professionally; and rallies around a Habitat for Humanity partner family who is working on the necessary steps to homeownership.

AAUW values and seeks a diverse membership. There shall be no barriers to full participation in this organization on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or class.
